Lime Pasta

Lime pasta is a warm pasta dish flavored by lime juice and/or lime zest. Besides pasta and lime, other ingredients used for preparing the dish are olive oil, garlic, cheese, flavoring herbs, seasonings and any kind of vegetables or meats of one's choice. Lime may be included in a simple sauce made by sautéing garlic in olive oil, or a rich sauce which may be made include a variety of ingredients like tomatoes, stock or cream. Variants to the dish can also be prepared by use of additional ingredients like cilantro, zucchini, prawns, crabs, chicken breasts and bacon. Lime pasta may be served as a starter, side or main dish.

Ingredients and Preparation

Lime pasta is made with ingredients such as any kind of pasta like tagliatelle or spaghetti, lime juice, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper. Besides these basic ingredients, others like lime zest, chicken stock, cream, cheese, chili peppers and flavoring herbs such as rocket or basil are also included in most lime pasta recipes.

To prepare the dish, pasta is cooked in plenty of salted boiling water till tender yet firm or 'al dente', after which it is drained, reserving some of the pasta cooking water. Finely chopped garlic and chopped red chili pepper are sautéed in heated olive oil, followed by addition of lemon zest and lemon juice. The mixture is cooked till it begins to bubble, and then tossed with cooked pasta along with some of the reserved pasta cooking water. Rocket leaves are stirred in, seasonings are adjusted and the pasta is topped with grated cheese before serving.


Lime pasta is served hot, as a starter or side dish with toasted bread, salad and veggies. It may also be served as a quick meal by itself.

Popular Lime Pasta Recipes

  • Garlic Chicken Pasta with Lime: This version is prepared by cutting chicken breasts to bite sized pieces and then cooking them in olive oil along with finely chopped garlic and lemon juice. This mixture is then tossed with cooked pasta and seasoned with salt, after which it is served hot.
  • Tomato and Lime Pasta: This is prepared by cooking garlic and tomatoes in olive oil, and then tossing it with cooked pasta. Seasonings are adjusted and lime juice is poured on it just before serving.
