In a kettle cook the noodles al dente.
Drain and place in a 2 quart (2 L) greased casserole dish.
Mix in the ham.
In a small sauce pan heat 1/2 the butter.
Add the flour and cook for 2 minutes over low heat.
Add the chicken stock, simmer for 3 minutes.
Add the cream and pepper.
Simmer until thick.
Pour over noodles.
Sprinkle with cheese and bread crumbs.
Dot with the remaining butter.
Bake in a preheated 500°F (260°C) oven for 7-10 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve at once.
