Caramelised Onions

Caramelised onions are so easy and satisfying to make. A bit of time is all that's needed, and you might get some tears from all the chopping, but you'll be left with a rich, sweet final product which is perfect for use in tarts, breads, sauces, and pizzas.

Ingredients

Butter 40 Gram
Olive oil 4 Tablespoon
Onions 20 Medium

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Peel the onions and using a sharp knife or mandolin slice the onions thinly.

MAKING

2. In a large pot, heat butter and olive oil together, until hot.

3. Add in the onions and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring continuously over high heat, until it turns translucent.

4. Turn down the heat to very low and allow to cook for about 2 hours, stirring onions occasionally after every 23 to 30 minutes.

5. After 2 hours and the onions are reduced considerably, allow to cook for 1 hour more stirring frequently until it turns deep golden in colour.

SERVING

6. Use Caramelized Onion as desired for tarts, pizzas or sauces.

TIPS

Store caramelized onion in a clean glass jar and refrigerate.
