Crispy Fried Onion Rings
|Spanish onions||2 Large|
|All purpose flour||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground nutmeg||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
|Buttermilk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Vegetable oil||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Peel onions; cut into 1/2-inch slices, and separate into rings.
Place rings in a bowl, and cover with water; refrigerate 1 hour.
Drain; dry with paper towels.
Combine dry ingredients; add buttermilk and egg, beating until smooth.
Dip rings into batter; fry in deep hot oil (375Â°) 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown on both sides.
Drain well on paper towels.
