Peel onions and slice about 3/8-inch thick.
Separate into rings and for extra crispness cover with ice water for about 15 minutes.
Drain and dry on absorbent paper.
Add milk to pancake mix and beat well.
Pour 3 to 4 inches oil into a deep saucepan; heat to about 365F.
Dip onion rings into batter and fry for about 2 minutes or until nicely browned and crisp.
Drain on absorbent paper and sprinkle with flavor salt.
To keep hot, spread the fried rings on a cooky sheet and set in 300F oven until rest of main course is ready.
