Crispy Onion Rings
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Vegetable oil||2 Cup (32 tbs) (for deep-frying)|
Cut onions into 1/4-inch (5 mm) thick slices; separate into rings.
In shallow bowl, stir together milk and 1/2 tsp (2 ml) of the salt; add onion rings and soak for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In bag, combine flour, remaining salt and pepper. Add onion rings in batches and shake to coat.
In deep-fryer or large saucepan, heat 2 inches (5 cm) oil to 375 °F (190°C) or until 1-inch (2.5 cm) cube of white bread turns golden brown in 40 seconds. Deep-fry rings, in batches and without crowding, for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain and keep warm in paper towel-lined baking dish in 250°F (120°C) oven until serving on warm platter.
