Hi, Im Coryanne Ettiene. Im a lover of sweet and aromatic food, especially caramelized onions. There are so many ways to use them in your summer dishes, they give your burgers the wow factor, offer a melt in your mouth finish to your salads and make simple finger foods burst with flavor. The beauty with caramelizing onions is that you can use a medley of onions at the same time to keep the flavors vibrant, or you can stick with a single batch of scallions, red, yellow or white onions. While making caramelized onions is simple, it takes patience and a watchful eye, but you can go from craving to serving in under an hour

Ingredients

Spanish onion 5 Large ((4
Grapeseed oil 2 Tablespoon ((1
Butter 2 Tablespoon
White granulated sugar 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Salt 1 Pinch

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Slice onions into thin strips.

MAKING

2. Into a warm frying pan, drizzle grapeseed oil and toss the sliced onion in it. Keep the heat at a medium/low and allow the onions to slowly soften for 10 minutes.

3. Add a pinch of salt, stir the onions and then cook covered for another 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes to keep them from sticking to the pan.

4. After 30 minutes of cooking or when the onions are soft and tender, add a knob of butter to the pan, and then sprinkle white granulated sugar across them.  You can use brown sugar, but I find that white sugar compliments all onion varieties.

5. Stir the onions to ensure they have blended well with the butter and sugar, and then turn up the heat to medium/high to allow the heat to caramelize the onions, stirring every few minutes to give them an even finish. Once they are soft and light brown, taste them as you cook; once you can’t stop eating them, they are done.

SERVING

Use as desired.
