Sausage Omelette Recipe Overview

Sausages incorporated in the dish to make sausage omelette can be of any variety. Be it Italian sausage, pork or tomato sausage, chicken sausage or beef sausage; all are equally flavorful and can make a filling egg dish.

Firstly the sausages are stir-fried in a hot skillet. The sausages are full of fat therefore extra fat is not required while frying. However, low-fat sausages are the best option for an extra healthy dish. The excess sausage fat is drained out from the pan. The sausage fat is not required for cooking the omelette as it may burn the egg that spoils the taste of the omelette. Sausages are cut diagonally into small pieces and kept aside until egg is prepared for frying.

The egg is generally used with yolk, but if low-calorie dish is needed then only egg whites can be used. Other ingredients such as chopped pepper, chopped mushrooms, chopped onion, chopped tomato and mixed greens are stir-fried in oil or butter in the same skillet in which sausages were fried. Meanwhile, the egg is beaten with salt, black pepper and herbs such as parsley, oregano and chives. As soon as the vegetables are stir-fried, they are taken out from the pan and set aside with the sausages. The beaten egg is poured in the hot skillet and allowed to cook from the bottom. The cut sausages and stir-fried vegetables are spread evenly on the uncooked top of the omelette. The omelette is then carefully flipped and allowed to cook from the other side. It is necessary to ensure that the stuffing is completely set within the egg.

Grated cheese is like an add-on component for any kind of omelette. It provides a cheesy and creamy flavor to the dish on melting. In sausage omelette, the grated cheese is added once the egg is cooked from both the sides and ready to serve. For a flat omelette, there is no need to fold the egg. The omeltte should be served with stuffing side on the top and sprinkled with grated cheese. For folded omelette, the stuffing side is inside the fold with the grated cheese.
