Salmon Omelette

Salmon omelet is a kind of stuffed omelet (a pancake made of egg) in which the omelet is stuffed with salmon, and other ingredients often consisting of onions, tomatoes, and herbs. Salmon omelette is a wholesome omelet made with eggs and salmon, served popularly as a breakfast dish. Salmon is first cleaned, cut into small chunks, cooked, and then used to prepare the stuffed omelet. Often smoked salmon is used in the preparation of the omelet to impart a smoky flavor to the dish.

Preparation Overview

It is quite easy to prepare salmon omelette. The simplest salmon omelette recipe suggests spooning sautéed mix of salmon chunks, green peppers, and onions over beaten eggs poured in an oil or butter coated skillet, and folding the omelette over the filling. Pepper and grated cheese is sprinkled over the salmon mix before the omelet is folded. The omelet is cooked until cheese melts and then served hot. Cooked potato cubes and herbs like parsley and thyme can also be used as the filling ingredients of omelet along with salmon. One of the recipes suggests using leek as an ingredient of salmon omelet. The leeks are sautéed until softened, and then combined with eggs, seasonings, tomatoes, and salmon flakes to prepare the omelet. Though the omelet is served hot from the frying pan, a few recipes suggest placing the omelet pan on the grill for a few minutes, before it is served.

Salmon, being a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, which are good fats, is good for heart health. Egg, the main ingredient of salmon omelet, is also enriched with healthy fats and good amount of protein. However, it is enriched with high cholesterol. Therefore, it is suggested to consume eggs in moderation, if the cholesterol level of an individual is on the higher side.
