Omelette is also one of the foods that make good use of chili peppers as the central flavoring ingredient.

Chili Pepper Recipe Overview

Chili pepper is often dried and ground to powder or crushed to make chili flakes. In almost all forms including fresh chili, the chili pepper is used in preparation of chili omelette. Canned chili is also one of the most widely used forms of chili on omelette. Powdered chili and  chili flakes are generally used as a spice or seasoning while beating the egg whereas fresh chili peppers are either chopped or minced before adding to the egg. Canned chili is generally added on the top of the egg while frying.

Other ingredients that are included in chili pepper omelette recipes are chopped onion, chopped tomato, minced ginger-garlic, herbs and seasonings. Even different types of sausages and meats are incorporated to enhance the flavor of the chili omelette.

The preparation of the omelette starts with beating the egg. Egg is generally used with yolk, but for a low-cholesterol variation, only egg whites are used. Egg is seasoned with chili flakes or chili powder. Excess chili makes the dish hot, so the amount of chili should be used according to taste and preference. Chopped vegetables and meats are sautéed in butter or oil until tender. The egg mixture is poured over the sautéed ingredients and fried until completely set.

If canned or fresh chilies are being used, the sautéed ingredients are combined with chili and kept aside. Egg mixture is poured in a hot skillet and fried. While the top of egg is still moist, the chili mixture is topped over it and omelette is flipped to cook from the stuffed side.

Quite often, cheese is added over the top of the omelette to make a chili cheese omelette.
