Old Time Fried Okra
|All purpose flour||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Cornmeal||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Egg||1 , well beaten|
|Shortening||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
1)Wash and cut okra into ½ inch slices after removeing the tips and stem ends.
2)In a bowl, mix together flour, salt, pepper and cornmeal.
3)Crack an egg and mix it with cut okra slices.
4)Dust and dip okra in the flour to completely cover it.
5)In a large skillet, heat shortening.
6)Deep fry okra until brown on all sides and crisp to touch.
7)Drain on paper towels.
8)Perfect spring mid morning snack or served with rice dishes for lunch.
