Oatmeal Currant Squares

Ingredients
  Butter/Margarine 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Firmly packed brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1 , beaten
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Sifted all purpose flour 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Rolled oats 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Dried currants 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Chopped walnuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  10x confectioners sugar 1 Tablespoon
Directions

1. Melt butter or margarine with brown sugar in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly.
2. Stir butter-sugar mixture into egg in a large bowl. Add vanilla; sift flour, baking powder and salt into egg mixture; mix in the oats, currants and walnuts. Turn into a greased, 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
3. Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 25 minutes, or until it is golden-brown. Cool on rack. While still slightly warm, cut into 16 squares. Sprinkle lightly with 10X sugar. When cool, store the squares in a tightly covered container.
