Date Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients
  Shortening 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs) (Half Butter Or Margarine)
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs) (Packed)
  Eggs 2
  Milk 3 Tablespoon
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Flour 2 Cup (32 tbs) (Gold Medal)
  Soda 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Rolled oats 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Dates 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs), cut up
  Chopped nuts 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
Directions

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla thoroughly.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Blend flour, soda, and salt; stir in.
Mix in oats, dates, and nuts.
Chill.
Heat oven to 375° (quick mod.).
Roll dough in 1 1/4 balls.
Place 3" apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
Flatten to 1/4" thickness with bottom of glass dipped in flour.
Bake 10 to 12 min., or until lightly browned.
