The date and nut filling is a cooked filling prepared by cooking dates with orange juice. The date and nut filling is thick and sticky and filled with nuts. The orange peels, make this filling colorful and yangy. The dae nut filling goes great with fruitcakes and nut cakes.
In saucepan, combine one 8 ounce package 1 1/2, cups) pitted dates, cut up, with 1/2 cup orange juice.
Cook and stir till dates are almost tender and mixture is thick, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Add 1 teaspoon grated orange peel.
Add 1/4 cup broken California walnuts.
