|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Figs||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), finely chopped|
|Chopped peeled apple||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Almonds||1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped|
|Grated orange rind||1 Teaspoon|
|Liquid||1 Cup (16 tbs) (Juice Of 1 Orange Plus Water)|
Combine sugar, figs, apple, almonds, orange rind, liquid, cinnamon and mace in a saucepan.
Simmer until thick and apples are soft, about 5 minutes.
Divide dough in halves.
Roll out one-half on a lightly floured board to a 15 by 10-inch rec- tangle.
Cut into 5-inch squares.
Place a rounded tablespoon of the fig filling on each.
Fold squares in half to form rectangles.
Seal edges with a fork.
Place on a cookie sheet.
Prick tops to allow escape of steam.
Bake in a hot oven (425° F) 12 to 15 min- utes.
Makes 12 turnovers.
