Line the bottom of a shallow baking pan with foil. Set pan aside. In a heavy 10-inch skillet combine sugar and butter or margarine. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, till sugar melts and turns a rich brown color.
Remove skillet from heat. Immediately add sunflower nuts. Stir to coat nuts evenly. Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking pan. Cool completely. Break mixture into clusters.
Package about 1/3 cup of the nuts in each bag. Tie closed with ribbon.
