Caramel Nut Squares

Ingredients
  Flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Eggs 2 , separated
  Vanilla 2 Teaspoon
  Nuts 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
Cream butter and sugar; beat in egg yolks and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Stir in flour mixture and nuts; spread in greased and waxed paper-lined 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
Beat egg whites until stiff, beating in brown sugar and remaining vanilla.
Spread meringue over batter.
Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
Cool; cut into squares.
