Seafood Noodle

Seafood Noodle refers to the dish, where noodles are either cooked with seafood or they are tossed with pre-cooked seafood at the end of preparation. This kind of noodle preparation is very popular in the Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, China, etc. Seafood like squid, clam, cuttlefish, mussels, and oyster are generally used in the preparation of seafood noodles.  The choice of ingredients, method of preparation and the way of serving, largely varies in all these countries.

 

Seafood Noodles Recipe Variants  

 

  • Thai Seafood Noodle Soup: This dish is commonly preferred by the Thai people due to its unique taste. Mussles and squid rings add distinct flavor to this dish. The noodle can be easily cooked using mussles, squid rings, egg noodles, olive oil, mushroom, mango tout, carrot, sweetcorn, red pepper, vegetable builion powder, fish sauce, chili and garlic paste. All the ingredients are fried in wok one by one and in the end, noodles are added into the wok.

 

  • Yaki Udon: This is a Japanese noodle dish involving seafoods. Its name translates to Japanese Seafood Noodle Stir-Fry. Japanese believe that stir –frying helps to bring out more flavors out of seafood. Ingredients like dried udon noodles, sunflower oil, squid, cooked prawns, spring onions, bean sprouts, shiitake mushrooms, dried green seaweed, bonito flakes, Japanese light soy sauce, and freshly grounded black pepper and salt are needed to prepare this dish. The noodles are cooked in water and kept separately. The spices, vegetables and seafood are fried in wok and noodles are added to them in the last.

 

  • Char Kway Teow: This is a popular sour and sweet noodle, involving seafood, from Malaysia. This sweet yet spicy version of seafood noodle is actually sold by the hawkers in the streets. Ingredients like lobster tails (optional), prawn tails, scallops, rice noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, kow choi, are required to cook the noodles. The sauce is prepared by combining oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, fish sauce, and chili paste. The dish is garnished with spring onions, red chilies and chili flowers. It can be teamed with wine like Chablis 1er cru mont de milieu.

 

Malaysian Way of Serving Seafood Noodles
Malaysians have very unique way of serving seafood noodles. There are many specific eateries which only serve this kind of noodle preparation. On entering to any of these restaurants, a person is greeted with condiments (required to prepare a plate of noodles with seafood in it) and big pots of soup bases. Then, every customer is given a choice to decide on their noodle dish. The customers can:

  • Choose their favorite soup base from options like Tom Yom, Plain and Curried.
  • Select from their own noodle types from options like Kuay Teow, Meehoon and Mee
  • Pick from their own seafood from types like cuttlefish, prawn, clam, and oyster.
  • Decide the size of plate they wish to finish.

 

The eaters are allowed to mix and match any type of seafood with noodles.
