Peeled Bananas Wrapped In Plastic Being Sold In Supermarket Chain
We have all heard of innovative and attractive packaging which helps to make food look appetizing. But do you actually need to buy plastic wrapped bananas that have been peeled before hand. Well, apparently, Billa, one of the largest supermarket chains in Germany has been offering such products with the plastic wrapped bananas being set firmly on a tray. While the slogan for the supermarket that operates in 9 European countries prides itself on its commonsense, such incidents only prove otherwise.
There has been a huge hue and cry about it with angry customers taking their protests to the social media sites. A writer in the Austrian Independent stated his disgust plainly saying, "if there is an easy to open ready packed food it's the banana -- peeling it only to pack it in environmentally unfriendly plastic is just madness."
However, it is clear that Billa would not have gone ahead with such crazy scheme unless there had been some demand for it. Whatever be the cause, the supermarket has withdrawn the product and has apologized for their action terming it as a one-off incident.
Are you convinced that bananas are best sold in their natural wrappers? Or are you all for the boring, plastic covers? Do let us know.
