Phuket Food Festival Goes Booze-Free First Time In 15 Years
There is a new addition to the popular Phuket food festival this year - you will get no booze this time. Okay, that is subtraction, not addition exactly, but it adds a new facet to the festival, or so claim the organizers. To understand why this condition has been introduced, you will have to realize that this nine-day festival, held in October every year is planned to celebrate the Chinese community's abstinence from meat, booze and other food items. This is done to celebrate the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. It is believed that by observing abstinence, one gets good health and peace of mind.
Therefore, for the first time in the 15-year-long history of the Phuket food festival , it will be a dry season for the visitors. However, you don't need to worry so much because in place of beer, you will have coffee, ice coffee and fresh juices to wash down all the Thai goodies that you will be munching at the festival.
