White House Beer

President Barack Obama has finally learnt how to brew beer at home and now the whole country wants to know the recipe. Just a few days ago, a petition was filed under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which asked for the secret recipe to be made public. While the White House is yet to make up its mind on whether to share it or not, official stand remains that it is upto the public to sign up and get the recipe. Here is how-

The White House Stand

Beer aficionados may find some hope in the words of White House press secretary Jay Carney, who has said on twitter, “Got a Q today on @wethepeople petition asking us to share WH beer recipe: if it reaches the threshold, we’ll release it.” The wethepeople petition was put up by a Reddit user and by threshold, Carney meant that the petition had to get at least 25,000 signatures, for the White House administration to consider it. However, just last week, Carney was not so sure, when he had said, “I’m not aware of any plans at this time to divulge the secret recipes.”

Obama’s Love for Beer

Although, the Prez has already made it clear that he loves his glass of ale on several occasions in the past, on his recent campaign trail through Iowa, he made it more than evident that he was not afraid of sharing this love with his countrymen. When some of the people present at one of the Iowa rallies asked the President for a bottle of the White House brew, he was more than happy to share a bottle or two with them. This gave the whole nation the notion that the secret recipe may also not be out of reach.

Just 5,000 Signs

At present, the ‘We The People’ that seeks the secret recipe, has been signed only by 5,000 people and it needs 20,000 more signatures before September 17, 2012, if it is to be considered. As Carney has already clarified, if the threshold is reached, the administration may consider releasing the recipe to the public. Beer may not be one of the healthiest drinks, but it is definitely one of the most popular drinks in America. So, it is surprising why more people are not coming out in support of this petition.
