Cancun-Riviera Maya Fest Promises To Be A Memorable Experience
The first Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival is going to be a ‘memorable experience’ if its organizers’ assurance is anything to go by. The festival not only has about two dozen celebrity chefs joining hands to explore the Mexican cuisine, it also promises to bring to you the best of the Americas in terms of culinary talent, food, wine, and spirits.
1) The Festival
The Festival will start on March 15 and will go on till March 18, 2012. It is being described as a “gourmet lifestyle event dedicated exclusively to celebrating the best the Americas have to offer…” The festival is basically an ode to the Mexican culture and that may seem a tall order to some but if you look at what the festival has to offer, you will not be so worried.
2) The Events
There are more than 30 events, which you can attend as part of the festival. These include ‘Beyond elBulli: The Future of Cuisine,’ which is a roundtable for culinary and food industry professionals, and, therefore, an invitation-only gathering. Other events of the festival are the ‘Celebrity & Winemakers Cruise’ (it features fine wine and spirits tasting seminars), ‘Cooking Demos’ (by celebrity chefs from seven countries), ‘Mixology demonstrations,’ and ‘After Dark Cancun’ parties, which will be held at the Rosewood Mayakoba. Junior Merino, also known as the ‘Liquid Chef’ will be working at the After Dark parties, where Argentinian and Brazilian mixologists will also display their talent. According to the festival founder, David Amar, “We’re planning a memorable experience. We want to facilitate interactions between our guest and preferred celebrities.”
3) The Highlights
The festival highlights are:-
Star Chefs of the Americas Tribute to Mexico – This will be a gala dinner to be held at the Coral Beach Fiesta Americana Hotel in Cancun on March 15. These star chefs will make use of the finest ingredients that Mexico has to offer to whip up Mexican delights for the guests.
Mexican Rising Chefs Tribute to Spanish Chef Ferran Adria – A gala dinner will be hosted at the Live Aqua Hotel on March 16, where rising chefs of Mexico will pay tribute to the Spanish legend.
American Express Gourmet Tasting Village – To be held at the Iberostar Cancun Hotel & Conference Centre on March 17 and 18, this tasting event is already a talk of the town. This tasting event will also host some of the signature treats of the best restaurants in the region, including gourmet tapas and many premium wines.
4) The Charity
However, the Cancun-Riviera Maya festival is not all about eat, drink and be merry. There is a philanthropic touch to it. The proceeds from the festival will be donated to the support of a local charity by the name of Ciudad de la Alegria. The charity works for betterment of disadvantaged children, violence victims as well as elderly. This is impetus enough for the guests to attend in large numbers and spend money as much as possible so that the charity benefits from the festival earnings.
For complete information on the festival schedule as well as ticket information, you can visit the official website of the festival. Whether or not the Cancun-Riviera Maya festival will prove to be in the same league as other American food and wine festivals remains to be seen. But in case you are going to be there, don’t forget to write in with your comments.
