Ingredients
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Molasses 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  All purpose flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Soda 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Ginger 1 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Hot water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Cream together shortening and sugar.
Beat in the egg, then the molasses.
Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices; stir into molasses mixture.
Gradually add hot water, beating till smooth.
Line muffin pans with paper bake cups; fill 2/3 full.
Bake in moderate oven (375°) for about 20 to 25 minutes or till done.
