Authentic Tamale Pie
|Cornmeal/Whole wheat cereal||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|Water||1 1⁄3 Cup (21.33 tbs)|
|Evaporated milk||1 2⁄3 Cup (26.67 tbs)|
|Finely cut onion||6 Tablespoon|
|Lean ground beef||3⁄4 Pound|
|Canned tomatoes||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs), or cooked|
|Chili powder||1 Teaspoon|
Put in saucepan the first 4 ingredients.
Stir and boil until mixture thickens.
Cover and cool.
Combine the next 4 ingredients in a skillet.
Cook slowly until meat has lost its red color, then add the last four ingredients.
Stir and cook until mixture is well blended.
Line bottom of greased baking dish with half of cornmeal mixture.
Cover with meat mixture.
Top with remaining cornmeal mixture.
Bake in 375 degree oven for 35 minutes or until brown.
