1) In a large saucepan or pot, pour 3 quarts of water.
2) Place over heat to bring a boil by covering.
3) Season with salt, if desired.
4) Add the macaroni.
5) Cook for about 8 minutes or until al dente.
6) Drain water.
7) Serve the macaroni with your favorite sauce or use in cooking special macaroni dishes.
