Date Loaf

Ingredients
  Sugar 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Butter/Oleo 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Milk 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Pitted chopped dates 8 Ounce (1 Package)
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Chopped pecans 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
Directions

Cook sugar, butter, salt and milk to a soft ball stage, 236-238 degrees F.
Add dates and cook slowly, stirring constantly until mixture forms a hard ball stage, 265 degrees F.
Remove from heat and add vanilla and pecans.
Beat until cool.
Pour on a damp cloth and shape into a long rectangular roll.
Refrigerate until completely cold.
Slice and serve.
An electric knife makes easier slicing.
Yields about 2 1/2 to 3 dozen.
