Old Fashioned Sage Loaf
|Meat loaf mixture||2 Pound|
|Quick-cooking rolled oats||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Onion||1 Medium, grated|
|Canned applesauce||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Sage leaf||1⁄2 Teaspoon, crumbled|
|Bottled steak sauce||1 Tablespoon|
1. Mix meat-loaf mixture lightly with eggs, rolled oats, onion, applesauce, salt, pepper and sage until well blended in a large bowl.
2. Pack mixture firmly into a loaf pan, 9x5x3 inches; unmold into a shallow baking pan. Score top in crisscross pattern; brush with the steak sauce.
3. Bake in moderate oven (350°) 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until it is brown.
