|Active dry yeast||1⁄4 Ounce (1 package)|
|Warm water||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Grated american cheese||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (packaged, shaker top)|
|Hot water||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Sifted all purpose flour||3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)|
Soften yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
Combine next 5 ingredients, stirring to dissolve.
Cool to lukewarm.
Stir in 2 cups flour, mixing well.
Add yeast and egg; mix well.
Add remaining flour or enough to make soft dough.
Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead till smooth.
Place in lightly greased bowl, turning once.
Cover; let rise till double, 1 1/4 hours.
Punch down; divide in 2 parts.
Cover; let rest 10 minutes.
Shape each part in roll 12 inches long.
Twist together in rope fashion, pinching ends together.
Place in greased 9 1/2 x 5x3-inch loaf pan.
Cover; let rise till double, 1 1/2 hours.
Bake at 375° for 35 minutes.
