Nut And Cheese Loaf
|Sugar||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
|Milk||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||3 Cup (48 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1 Tablespoon|
|Butter||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Walnuts||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped|
|Cherries||3 Tablespoon, candied|
Grease and line a large 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
Beat the eggs with the sugar and then stir in the milk.
Sift the flour into a bowl with the baking powder and salt then rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the chopped nuts then add the liquid and mix thoroughly.
Turn the mixture into the prepared pan, smooth the top and decorate with the candied cherries and walnut halves.
Bake in the center of a moderate oven (325°F) for about 1 1/4 hours until the loaf is well risen and cooked through.
If the nuts seem to be over browning halfway through the cooking time, cover the top with a folded piece of wax paper or foil.
When the loaf is cooked turn it out onto a cake rack and leave to cool.
Brush sugar glaze over the cherry and nut decoration of the cake.
Leave until the glaze sets.
