1) In a large saucepan, add water, lentil and bring to boil. Reduce the flame, add in diced onions and garlic, and let it cook for 25 more minutes.
2) Add in chili powder, raisins, molasses and tomato paste and continue cooking for 20 more minutes.
3) The lentils are cooked when they turn tender but not mushy.
4) Serve the savory lentils hot over steaming rice.
