Cut lemons into thin slices; remove seeds.
Place in a bowl and sprinkle with sugar.
Let stand about 10 minutes.
Then press fruit with a potato masher or back of spoon to extract juice.
Add water, pressing fruit until well flavored.
Remove fruit slices.
Serve over ice cubes.
If desired, garnish with the lemon slices.
For LIMEADE, use 2 limes for 2 of the lemons.
Prepare as directed, increasing sugar to 1 cup
For ORANGEADE, use 2 oranges and 3 lemons.
Prepare as directed, decreasing sugar to 1/2 cup.
