Salmon And Rice With Green Tea - Yaki Onigiri Ochazuke

TheAimlessCook's picture
Ochazuke is a Japanese snack with salmon, rice and green tea. This is a really quick snack if you happen to have leftover rice and a little salmon. This works with canned salmon too. In the grocery store, you can get instant ochazuke in little packets that come in different flavors. In this recipe, I will be making my ochazuke with a grilled onigiri but you can use plain rice if you are pressed for time.
Ingredients
Cooked rice 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Furikake/Nori 1 Tablespoon
Salmon fillets 1 Small, cooked leftover
Green tea powder 1 Teaspoon (To prepare 1 cup of green tea)
Directions

MAKING
1. Take a bowl, add cooked rice, season it with furikake.
2. Moisten the palms of your hand and take a portion of the seasoned rice and make a patty, add a little of the salmon in the middle and cover the patty on top with a little more of the rice. Gently mould into a nice flattened ball. In a heated slightly oiled pan, place these rice balls for a couple of minutes turning the sides.

FINALIZING
3. Take a small bowl and place the onigiri in the bottom of the bowl, topping it with a little of the salmon shreds and sprinkle with some more of the furikake or shredded nori.
4. Lastly pour some green tea over the assembled toppings just before you serve.

SERVING
5. Serve warm.
