Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients
  Lean steak 250 Gram, minced
  Minced pork 250 Gram
  Bacon 60 Gram, chopped
  Olive oil 1 Tablespoon
  Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm), peeled
  Onion 1 Small, finely chopped
  Chopped parsley 1 Tablespoon
  Bay leaf 1
  Canned tomatoes 500 Gram (1 Can)
  White wine 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Water 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Tomato paste 2 Tablespoon
  Salt To Taste
  Freshly ground black pepper To Taste
  Grated nutmeg To Taste, grated
  Chopped fresh basil/1 teaspoon dried basil 1 Tablespoon
  Butter/Cream 2 Tablespoon (if desired) (Optional)
Directions

Put steak, pork and bacon or prosciutto, mixed well together, into a saucepan with oil, garlic, onion, parsley and bay leaf. Brown slowly, stirring frequently to prevent meat cooking in lumps. As soon as garlic turns golden, remove it and discard. Add tomatoes (with juice from can), wine, water, tomato paste, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Add basil and cook 1 minute longer. Remove from heat and discard bay leaf. If liked, add a little butter or a few spoonfuls of cream. Makes sufficient for 500g pasta.
