Italian Style Green Peppers

Ingredients
  Green peppers 4 Large, halved, seeded
  Olive oil/Salad oil 1 Tablespoon
  Boiling water 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Salt To Taste
  Onion 1 Medium, sliced
  Garlic 2 Clove (10 gm), minced
  Canned tomatoes 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Sugar 2 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Basil 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

About 45 minutes before serving: Cut peppers into 1 1/2-inch strips; halve crosswise.
In large skillet, heat 3 tablespoons oil; add peppers; saute 10 minutes or until slightly browned.
Add boiling water, 1 teaspoon salt; simmer, covered, 20 minutes or until tender.
Meanwhile, in saucepan, in 1 tablespoon oil, saute onion and garlic until golden.
Add tomatoes, sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper and basil.
Simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until thickened.
Place drained peppers in serving dish; pour on tomato sauce.
