Remove casings from sausages; crumble meat into a large bowl.
Add bread crumbs, onion, egg, and oregano.
Shape sausage mixture into 6 oblong patties, each about the size of a slice of French bread.
Place patties on a lightly greased grill 4 to 6 inches above a solid bed of medium coals.
Cook, turning once, until meat is no longer pink in center; cut to test (10 to 12 minutes).
Watch carefully for flare-ups during grilling.
