Caramel Apples with Candy Toppings

Join Joe and his son Vito in the kitchen as they show you how to make homemade caramel and caramel dipped apples. To really step it up, Joe and Vito dip the apples in candy toppings and nuts to give you a fantastic and delicious treat for the holiday season.
Ingredients
  Butter 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Vanilla extract 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cream of tartar 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  White sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Light corn syrup 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Heavy cream 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Apples 20
Directions

GETTING READY

1. Line a tray with parchment paper. Grease the paper with butter.

MAKING

2. Put brown sugar, white sugar, butter, cream of tartar and heavy cream in a deep pot.

3. Place the pot on medium heat, stirring it occasionally. Bring the temperature upto 220 F and let the caramel cook for about 25 minutes.

4. Remove the pot from heat, add vanilla while stirring. Let the pot sit on the counter table for the caramel to cool.

5. Meanwhile stick the skewers in the apple and tap them such that the skewers go in deep enough.

6. When the caramel has cooled a bit, roll the apples in the caramel, let the extra caramel drip off and then hold the apple over the pot for the caramel to cool a bit.

7. Roll the caramel apples in the toppings of your choice. Place them on tray lined with parchment paper. Repeat the same with whole or apple slices.

SERVING

8. Arrange them on a platter and serve.
