You may have a bottle of celery salt in your pantry but your recipe may ask for only celery seed without the salt. Or your celery salt has gone all moist and lumpy due humidity and is no longer fit for the shaker.
If you don’t want to waste your money and time going to the grocery store to purchase celery seed, you can separate celery seed from celery salt and use as required or make fresh celery salt that will flow easily out of the salt shaker.
You may be thinking that separating celery seed from celery salt is an impossible task. But it isn’t! With a little bit of time and patience, you can separate celery seed and salt.

If your celery salt is free flowing and not moist and you need just a little bit of celery seed for your recipe, then this method will workUsing a very fine nylon mesh sieve, sift the celery salt. This way the larger celery seed granules will be segregated from the fine particles of salt. You can then use a pair of tweezers to remove the celery seeds piece by piece and place them in a clean dry bowl. This may need a little patience but it is not impossible to separate celery seeds as the celery seeds are 10 times bigger and browner than the grains of white salt. Make sure the tweezers and your hands are dry. Keep wiping the tweezers with a dry kitchen duster while you are separating celery seeds from the salt. Collect the required amount of celery seeds in a bowl or plate and bottle the remaining in a clean dry shaker unless you want to separate all of it.
If the celery salt in the shaker has gone all lumpy due to the hygroscopic nature of salt then your will have to use the dissolving method for separating celery seed from celery salt. Mix the celery salt in a saucepan of warm water, and stir it until the salt has dissolved and the celery seeds remain as sediment.
