Japanese white tea is better than green tea as it contains lesser caffeine but has equal amount of anti-oxidants and phytonutrients like green tea. So what are the different types of Japanese white tea and their specialty? In a broad classification there are 4 types of Japanese white tea.


 


Tribute Eyebrow and Noble Long Life


Although Japanese white tea has mild flavors, the above two varieties of Japanese white tea are stronger to taste and have dark color. These tea types are harvested much later after the tea harvesting season and therefore they have deep color and strong flavors. 


The Tribute Eyebrow type of Japanese white tea is plucked at the end after the buds and delicate leaves are harvested for other varieties of tea. Both these Japanese white tea varieties have a longer processing time that results in darker color and strong flavors.



White Peony


White peony type of Japanese white tea has both whole leaves and closed buds in the ratio 2:1, which means for every 2 leaves there is 1 closed bud. White peony is a product of tree named Zheng He. This Japanese tea variety is picked up after Silver needle and therefore has darker look and stronger aroma. Silver Needles

Silver needles is the best Japanese white tea. The presence of silver needles can be seen in the history of Japan as a royal drink. Silver needle is hand picked and comprises of the best and unopened buds and later dried in the sun.  The buds are processed minimally to retain the bud’s natural, light and delicate flavor.  Moreover the buds are picked up during a specific time like on an early spring morning.
