Use of tea as a seasoning for vegetables is a common practice.

Cooking with tea is an age-old technique and a popular method of cooking in various countries. Even some cooks in the Western world have been experimenting cooking with tea in order to add a different flavoring to their dishes. Vegetables are important for our health and some people feel the need to alter their flavor so as to enjoy them. For those who want to use tea as a seasoning to their vegetables, there are a number of ways in which you can do this.

While steaming the vegetables you can add a tea. For this you will have to fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add in other ingredients to the water that you want to season the vegetables with, like salt or pepper, and include some teabags too. What type of teabags and how many to add to the vegetables depends on preferences of flavor and strength as well. Remove the pot from the heat and cover it for approximately five minutes before removing the bags. Put the vegetables in a basket above the water and cover up the pot again, and cook for ten minutes.

Replace tea for water while boiling vegetables. Use the same method that you use while steaming the vegetables but keep the tea on boil and add the preferred vegetables to the pan. Alternatively, you may steep your tea in a pot for about 20 to 30 minutes at room temperature. This will lend the tea a less bitter taste. Not only this, the above mentioned method is also a recommended method when cooking with tea. Then, as before, place the tea again on the heat, bring to a boil and finally add the vegetables.

Add tea in the form of an ingredient to vegetable soups. You can do this in two different ways: either by replacing tea as a substitute for water or by adding tea after ground up. Take whole tea leaves and grind them before you add them to the soup as you would add any herb or spice. Similarly, mix tea leaves or use brewed tea as the base for a sauce that can be drizzled over your vegetables.
