Aloo Matar

 

Aloo matar is a popular everyday dish all over India. It is generally made in every household. The spices and the way of cooking differ from person to person. Aloo matar literally means potato green peas. This dish is a curried potato and green pea dish which can be dry or with gravy. It can be mildly flavoured or spicy.

 

 

Ingredients and Preparation

 

Potatoes and green peas are the main ingredients for this dish. Regular Indian spices like turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin are used. Mustard seeds can also be used to season it. The gravy can be made by cooking together onion, tomatoes, ginger and garlic

Potatoes and green peas are added and the vegetables are either pressure cooked or cooked with a lid in a pan.

 

 

Serving

 

Aloo mater is served as a curry with roti or chapatti. It can also be served with puris or rice. South Indians serve it with dosa or appam.
