Khichdi

Ingredients
  Cumin seeds 1⁄4
  Green chillies 2 (slit lengthwise)
  Water 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Salt To Taste
  Rice 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Moong dal 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Bay leaves 4
  Cinnamon sticks 3 Medium
  Cloves 5
  Turmeric powder 2 Pinch
  Onion 1⁄2 , julienned
Directions

Wash 1 cup Rice & half cup Moong Dal together, drain water & keep aside.

Heat 3 tbs oil in a shallow pan. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, bay leaves, onions, green chillies & turmeric powder. Saute until onions turn brownish.

Add this to Rice. Add 3 cups water, salt & cook rice either in rice cooker or on stove.

Serve Hot.

Story
I had gone on a holiday to the West Coast & before leaving home, I literally emptied my fridge. On returning home, I didn't find any veggies to cook, so for lunch I made "khichdi", easy to cook, tasty to eat & doesn't require any curry to mix with. Khichdi can be had as it is or with yogurt or any pickle. Personally I like to mix some mango pickle in yogurt & have it with khichdi.
