How To Make Fish Moli

Ingredients
  King fish 250 Gram, sliced
  Coconut oil 2 Tablespoon
For marinade
  Black pepper powder 2 Teaspoon
  Turmeric powder 2 Teaspoon
  Salt To Taste
  Lemon 1⁄2 , juiced
For gravy
  Coconut oil 2 Tablespoon
  Fennel seeds 1 Teaspoon
  Ginger paste 2 Teaspoon
  Garlic paste 2 Teaspoon
  Onion 1 , chopped
  Tomatoes 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Green chilies 6 , chopped
  Turmeric powder 1 Teaspoon
  Black pepper powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Red chili powder 1 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Curry leaves 8
  Cornflour 2 Teaspoon
  Water 5 Tablespoon
For thick coconut milk
  Coconut 1 , grated
  Water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
For thin coconut milk
  Coconut 1⁄2 , grated
Directions

FOR THICK COCONUT MILK
MAKING
1. Grate one full coconut. Grind the grated coconut with 1 cup of water.
2. Squeeze it to take the milk. Strain the milk into a bowl and set aside.

4. Grate half of a coconut. Grind the grated coconut with 1 cup of water.
5. Squeeze it to take the milk. Strain the milk into another bowl and set aside.

FOR MARINATE

7. In a large dish, place the fish slices. Pour lemon juice over them.
8. Add pepper powder and turmeric powder along with some salt.
9. Spread everything well on the fish. Keep the fish marinated for half an hour.

FOR FRYING THE FISH

11. In a pan, add coconut oil and heat it. Put all the fish pieces in the heated oil and fry them. Do not deep fry. Transfer the fried fishes to a plate and set aside.

FOR GRAVY

13. In a pan and add coconut oil. Add fennel seeds and let them pop up. Add ginger and garlic paste.
14. Stir in the onions and sauté them for a minute. Add tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes.
15. Add green chilies, turmeric powder, pepper powder, red chili powder and mix them well.
16. Pour in thin coconut milk and boil for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, add the fried fishes. 17. Add salt and cook for a few minutes. Reduce the flame and pour thick coconut milk. 18. Turn off the flame and add corn flour mix.
19. Sprinkle pepper powder, cinnamon and curry leaves for garnishing.

SERVING
20. Serve the Fish Moli with white rice, chapatti or bread.

Tip: You can add 1 tbsp of vinegar to the curry for more flavored taste.

Fish moilee is a typical Syrian Christian delicacy with the distinction that it is subtly flavored to suit most palates. This fish curry recipe is a traditional one where the fish is marinated and fried before being added to a coconut milk infused with fresh ginger, garlic curry leaves and tomatoes, stewed in a traditional monchatti (earthen vessel). This coconut fish stew is fragrant and one bite of it will instantly transport you to the backwaters of Kerala.
