Butter Tofu Curry (Indian Vegetarian Food)

Ingredients

Tofu 350 Gram , cut into small pieces
For the marinade
Plain yogurt 2 Tablespoon , whisked
Turmeric 1 Teaspoon
Salt 1 Teaspoon
Red chili powder/Paprika 1 Teaspoon
Tandoori masala 1 Teaspoon
For pan frying the marinated tofu
Butter/Desi ghee 2 Tablespoon
For the gravy
Oil 2 Tablespoon
Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon
Coriander seeds 1 Teaspoon
Cloves 4 Medium
Green cardamom 2 Medium
Cinnamon stick 1 Inch
Onion 1 Medium , chopped
Garlic cloves 3 Medium , chopped
Ginger 2 Inch , chopped
Green chili 1 Medium , chopped (Optional)
Chopped tomatoes 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Water 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
For the garnish
Cilantro 2 Tablespoon , chopped

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Marinate tofu with yogurt and spices (salt, turmeric,red chili powder and tandoori masala). Let the tofu pieces sit in the marinade for 1 hour.

MAKING

2. Heat a pan with butter, pan-fry the marinated tofu until golden brown on all sides. Once done, set them aside.

3. Heat oil in a pan and fry cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cloves, green cardamom and cinnamon sticks for about 1 minute.

4. Then, add onions, salt, ginger, garlic and green chilies (if using). Fry the mixture for about 3 - 4 minutes until onions start turning golden.

5. Add tomatoes and cook further for 5 minutes until soft and tender.

6. Once done, transfer mixture into a blender and blend with water until you get a smooth gravy.

7. Into a heated pan, add the fried tofu pieces and the prepared sauce. Let simmer for a few minutes.

8. Garnish with cilantro leaves and the butter tofu curry is ready to be served.

SERVING

9. Serve warm over rice or any Indian style flat bread like roti, naan or paratha.
