Miryalu Charu/ Rasam ( Black Pepper & Tomatoes Soup)

Ingredients
  Black pepper seeds 1 Tablespoon
  Coriander seeds 1 Tablespoon (dhaniya)
  Cumin seeds 1⁄2 Teaspoon (jeera)
  Oil 2 Tablespoon
  Ghee 1 Tablespoon
  Tomatoes 3 Medium
  Tamarind 25 Gram, soaked in water
  Chilli powder 1 Teaspoon
  Turmeric powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Garam masala powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Dhaniya powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Rasam powder 2 Tablespoon
  Coriander 2 Tablespoon
Directions

Grind black pepper, dhaniya seeds & jeera coarsely.

Heat 2 tbs oil & 1 tbs ghee in a deep vessel. When hot, add the coarsely ground mixture to it & saute for half a minute.

Boil tomatoes separately in 1 cup water & puree them, add this to the above mixture.

Soak Tamarind in 1 cup water for 5 minutes, strain & pour this mixture in the vessel.

Allow the mixture to boil for sometime. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, dhaniya powder, garam masala, rasam powder & coriander leaves

Add another cup of water. Add salt according to taste & let boil until you get a nice aroma.

Serve Hot with Rice or can also have it as soup.

The Hindi name for Tamarind is "Imli"

Thanks, very common, but I was ignorant of it. Thanks a lot to enrich me. Imli name itself is enough to make me nostalgic for my childhood. We use to get it from our school campus from a big tree of Imli. There r many memories linked with that big-big Imli tree. Few days ago I visited my school and found that big-tree was sold by the authority for some money and consequently cut down. It was disheartening...
