Cold Chana Dal With Potatoes
|Chana dal||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), cleaned and washed|
|Peeled ginger slices||3 (About 1 Inch In Diameter And 1/8 Inch Thick, Fresh)|
|New potatoes||4 , boiled and diced into 1/2-inch cubes|
|Freshly ground pepper||1⁄8 Teaspoon|
|Ground roasted cumin||1 Teaspoon|
|Lemon juice/3 tablespoons tamarind paste||2 Tablespoon|
Put the dal to boil with 3 cups of water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and the ginger slices.
Simmer gently for 1 hour.
Discard ginger slices.
In a serving bowl, combine the dal, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and the remaining ingredients.
To serve: Serve with lamb roast or pork chops.
Indians often eat this as a snack, at tea time.
