Cold Chana Dal With Potatoes

Ingredients
  Chana dal 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), cleaned and washed
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Peeled ginger slices 3 (About 1 Inch In Diameter And 1/8 Inch Thick, Fresh)
  New potatoes 4 , boiled and diced into 1/2-inch cubes
  Freshly ground pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Ground roasted cumin 1 Teaspoon
  Lemon juice/3 tablespoons tamarind paste 2 Tablespoon
Directions

Put the dal to boil with 3 cups of water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and the ginger slices.
Cover.
Simmer gently for 1 hour.
Drain.
Discard ginger slices.
In a serving bowl, combine the dal, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and the remaining ingredients.
Mix well.
To serve: Serve with lamb roast or pork chops.
Indians often eat this as a snack, at tea time.
