Indian Lentil Dal

Ingredients
  Lentils 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Salt To Taste
  Water 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm), minced
  Onion 1 Medium, sliced
  Oil 1 Tablespoon
  Garam masala 1 Teaspoon
  Turmeric 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ginger 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Chili powder 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Tomato juice 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
Directions

Combine lentils and water in a saucepan, partially cover pan with a lid and bring to a boil.
Watch carefully to prevent lentils from boiling over.
Turn heat down and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until lentils are tender.
Meanwhile, saute garlic and onion in oil, adding the spices and then the tomato juice.
Cook until onions are soft and mixture is well blended.
Add onion and spice mixture to lentils and salt to taste.
Puree dal in electric blender and serve with brown rice.
