Green Tomato Pickles

Ingredients
  Green tomatoes 7 Pound, sliced
Slaked lime
  Sugar 5 Pound
  Vinegar 3 Pint
  Ginger 1 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1 Teaspoon
  Allspice 1 Teaspoon
Directions

Soak the tomatoes in 2 gallons water with lime for 24 hours.
Drain and soak in clear water.
Change water every hour, all during the day.
Cover with clear water and soak overnight.
Drain and soak again if necessary to be sure all the lime is removed.
Combine the sugar, vinegar and spices, tied in a small cloth bag.
Cook the sugar mixture to syrup consistency and pour over the drained cucumbers.
Let stand for 24 hours.
Move spice bag around occasionally so all tomatoes are seasoned.
Boil the mixture for 1 hour.
Remove spice bag, then fill sterilized jars and seal while hot.
