Mixed Dal

  Gram dal 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Moong dal 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Toor dal 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Urad dal 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
For grinding masala
  Coriander seeds 2 Tablespoon
  Cumin seeds 2 Tablespoon
  Turmeric powder 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Red chillies 6
  Ginger piece 1 Small
  Green chillies 2
  Masoor daal 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Ghee/Oil 2 Tablespoon
  Tomatoes 2 , chopped
  Onion 2 , grated
  Garlic 8 Clove (40 gm)
  Coriander leaves 1 Tablespoon
  Cinnamon pieces 2
  Cloves 4
  Peppercorns 8
  Salt To Taste

Wash all the five dals and cook them in salted boiling water or in pressure cooker.
Dal should be quite thick.
Heal oil in a pan and fry onion till light brown.
Add ground masala and cook for five minutes, sprinkling water if necessary.
When ghee comes on top, add tomatoes.
Bring cooked dal to a boil.
Lower the heat.
Add fried masala mixture.
Cover and let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
Stir frequently.
