Masala Vada

An easy to make Masala Vada recipe. One of my favorites, this is also a very popular South Indian recipe. Please try it and let me know how this Masala Vada recipe turns out for you.
  Gram flour 2 Tablespoon
  Chana dal 200 Gram
  Cinnamon stick 3
  Whole red chili 3
  Curry leaves 1 Tablespoon, chopped finely
  Coriander leaves 1 Tablespoon, chopped finely
  Green chili 1 Tablespoon, chopped finely
  Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon
  Salt To Taste
  Cooking oil 4 Cup (64 tbs) (For deep frying)

1. Soak chana dal for at least 40 to 5 hours.
2. In a blender, add cinnamon, red chilli and cumin, add soaked channa dal, and coarsely blend them together.

3. Add rest of the ingredients to the mixture and mix well. Add gram flour if required for binding.
4. In a wok, heat oil, flat dumplings of the chana dal mixture and deep fry in medium heat till golden brown and crispy.

5. Serve hot with your favorite dip.

why cant i add water, a little bit in the mixie itself? is besan the binding factor?

Masala vada is one of my favorite tea time snacks. I love feasting on vadas during any train journey. I do add a bit of water while grinding in the mixer itself so that I get a coarse paste that can be flattened and deep fried. Of course you need to be careful not to make it too watery. In case it has become watery of course besan or chickpea flour can definitely save you.

I missed mom's cooking and searched high and low for this recipe until I found it on your video. I made it and couldnt believe how tasty they turned out to be !!! My neighbours and friends kept coming back for more!!!
