Udida Appo/Paniyaram/Urad Appam

Ingredients
  Urad dal 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Rice 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Oil   (for frying)
  Salt To Taste
Directions

Soak rice and dal separately for 3-4 hours.
Grind them separately to a smooth paste and keep in different containers.
Allow it to ferment for 10-12 hours.
Mix both the batter together, add salt and mix well.
Heat Paniyaram pan and add some oil to all the moulds.
Now fill the moulds with batter and prepare appma by cooking on both sides.
Serve hot with coconut chutney.

Hi Saritha, a very good recipe. I love paniyaram. Especially the sweet paniyaram. Paniyaram can be made as sweet or hot. Sweet one is made by making mixing jaggery syrup & cardomom powder in the same batter you'v specified and cooked. It'll taste great. Hot one is made by sauting mustard, dry chilly, onion, curry leaves and mixing with the batter and cooked. Try and let me know..
